The UAE is set to witness an increase in its cement capacity by 19 per cent in 2011, according to a latest report. UAE's current cement capacity at 34mtpa (20mtpa of listed cement manufacturers and remaining of the unlisted cement companies) is expected to increase to 40.6mtpa (24.5mtpa of the listed and 16.1mtpa of the unlisted companies) by 2011.

JK Cement from India is considering building a cement plant in Fujairah, UAE. Kuwait Cement Company expansion will see capacity going up by 5500 TPD of clinker, with completion reported by end 2010.

Saudi Arabia being the largest cement manufacturer in the region is going in for major expansions. Cement companies like Southern Province Cement Company in Tihama plans expansion of 5000 TPD clinker plants, City Cement also plans for expansion with completion reported by end of 2010. Hail Cement will also invest $200 million in a new plant having a capacity of 1.5 mtpa. Riyadh Cement will add a second line thus taking its annual cement production capacity to 4 million tonnes. Eastern Provinces Cement Company in Saudi Arabia also plans to increase their existing capacity by 3500TPD in 2010.

Iran currently produces some 65 million tons of cement per year. Eight cement projects are projected to come on stream to boost Iran's cement production capacity to 76 million tons.

Egyptian cement maker, Asec Cement has announced plans to more than double its production by 2013. Twelve licenses will be offered by Egypt's Ministry of Trade to build cement factories in 2010 to meet growing local demand, as reported by Reuters.
